Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says he doesn’t want to complain too much after seeing his team lose to Arsenal in the opening round of the 2025-2026 English Premier League season through a goalkeeping mistake.
Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori scored from close range in the 13th minute off a Declan Rice corner that Man United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir should have dealt with.
The Turkish stopper fluffed his punch on the corner kick after struggling to fend off Arsenal’s William Saliba, who tussled with Mason Mount in front of him.
Speaking in a post-game interview with the BBC, Amorim praised his team for being the better side but highlighted the game-deciding moment, saying,
“It was really hard because I think we showed that we were the better team today. We played better than Arsenal. The goalkeeper has to use the hands to catch the ball. I don’t want to complain.”

Man United’s three big signings, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha all made their competitive debuts in the loss.

The Red Devils next take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday, August 24.
