The Ajumako District Police Command has begun a search for a woman believed to be in her 50s after she was allegedly captured on CCTV stealing an 11-month-old baby at the Ajumako market in the Central Region.

The incident took place on a busy market day. Footage from a nearby CCTV camera shows the woman walking swiftly away from the market while holding the baby.

Reports indicate that she had distracted the baby’s caregiver with a conversation before making away with the child.

According to the baby’s mother, Esi Sekyiwa, she had left her son in the care of her sister-in-law while she sold cassava nearby.

She said the caregiver was approached by the unknown woman, who pretended to offer help. Within moments, the woman vanished with the child.

The mother recounted frantically searching for both the child and the stranger, asking those nearby if they had seen anything. Unfortunately, no one could offer any information until the CCTV footage was reviewed.

Family members, upon watching the video, confirmed the woman seen walking away with the baby was the same person who had earlier approached the caregiver.
