President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in seven new justices to the Supreme Court of Ghana.
This was done during a ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
This addition of new judges at the Apex Court is expected to enhance its capability to manage the growing volume of cases, particularly as the country prepares for key constitutional reviews.
The new justices were appointed following a vetting process and subsequent approval by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
They include Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo, and Justice Hafisata Amaleboba.
In his remarks, President Mahama highlighted the vital function of the judiciary in safeguarding democratic governance and upholding the rule of law.
He encouraged the justices to maintain a commitment to integrity, fairness, and impartiality, reminding them of the important oath they took to serve the people of Ghana with honour.
These seasoned judges, promoted from the Court of Appeal, bring extensive legal and judicial experience to their new roles on the Supreme Court.
Their appointments adhered to Article 144 of the 1992 Constitution and followed the required constitutional protocols, including advice from the Judicial Council, consultations with the Council of State, and parliamentary approval.
With the addition of these seven justices, the composition of the court is notably strengthened, and its capability to handle an increasingly intricate caseload is set to improve.
