Anchor development on strategic tourism to attract investors – Hoteliers to govt

The Ghana Hotels Association is calling on government to reposition tourism as a cornerstone of Ghana’s economic development strategy, arguing that a robust and intentional tourism agenda could serve as a powerful magnet for investment across multiple sectors.

According to the Association, aligning national development with a well-structured tourism framework has the potential to not only boost visitor numbers but also drive capital inflows into ancillary sectors such as transport, retail, hospitality, and real estate.

Amid rising global trade tensions and the scramble by African economies to cushion themselves against external shocks, the Association believes tourism presents an untapped economic lever that must not be sidelined.

Speaking at the 2025 Citi Business Festival Forum on the theme “Global Tariff Dispute: Navigating Ghana’s Recovery Strategy,” President of the Association, Dr. Edward Ackah-Nyamike Jnr, underscored the pivotal role of tourism in economic revitalization.

“The bottom line must be tourism in all sectors of the economy because that is what is going to promote people coming into the country or market the country,” he stated.

He further noted, “The interesting thing about tourism that has been ignored is that it has a unique distribution line of money right from the transport operators, hoteliers, tour guides—which in the longer run increases the purchasing power of Ghanaians.”
