Ghanaian musician Epixode has opened up about his choice to feature highlife legend Kwabena Kwabena on the remix of his popular track Atia Donko, revealing the collaboration was more divine alignment than deliberate planning.

Speaking on Asaase Radio Artsy, Epixode shared that although he reached out to several top artistes for the remix, none of them followed through. Surprisingly, it was Kwabena Kwabena himself who initiated contact after hearing the original version of the song.

“Let me be truthful, I actually linked up with so many artists and none pulled off. It was Uncle KB [Kwabena Kwabena] who actually DM’d me and said, ‘Bro, your song is fire.’ Even then, he didn’t know I had plans for a remix.”

According to Epixode, he had originally planned to shoot a simple video of Kwabena Kwabena vibing to the track. But when the highlife singer arrived on set and saw the setup, he was immediately intrigued. What followed was a spontaneous, one-take performance that eventually became the official remix video.

“All the scenes in the video were real. It wasn’t scripted. That was his house, and the lyrics he was reading—those were actually his. The energy was right, and without his touch, maybe the remix wouldn’t have reached where it is now,” he said.

The Atia Donko remix has since gained momentum, with many fans praising the synergy between Epixode’s dancehall-rooted style and Kwabena Kwabena’s soulful highlife delivery.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Epixode added: “I’m just grateful. He understood the vision without me having to explain too much. It was meant to be.”

The song has cemented itself as a cross-generational favourite, blending tradition and modernity, and further establishing Epixode’s versatility as an artiste willing to push the boundaries of Ghanaian music.
