A 30-year-old man named Aminu Amidu Mohammed has been arrested by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command for selling harmful drugs, as well as unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm at his hideout in Sabon Zongo, Accra.
His immediate arrest followed a tip-off from a local community watchdog group, which led a police intelligence team to his location.
A thorough search by authorities found large quantities of prescription-only medications, including Gebedol and other opioid substances commonly referred to on the street as “Red.”
Addressing the media at the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters on Monday, May 26, 2025, the Regional Commander, DCOP Duuti Tuaruku, confirmed that the suspect had already been arraigned before court.

“The police, acting on reliable intelligence, successfully arrested the suspect, who was found in possession of dangerous pharmaceutical drugs and an unlicensed firearm,” DCOP Tuaruku said.
“We are urging the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of our communities,” he added.
The arrest comes at a time when efforts are underway to crack down on illegal drug distribution and firearm possession in urban centres across the region.
