DR Congo took a significant step towards the quarterfinals of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations after coming from behind to defeat the Central African Republic 3-1 on Sunday.
The Central African side opened the scoring through defender Raphael Nzabakomada-Yakoma, who capitalised on an early opportunity to give his team a surprise lead. DR Congo, however, responded with character and composure.
Midfielder Noah Makanza brought parity after a penalty miss by forward Tonny Talasi and then added a second to hand the Congolese the advantage. Samuel Ntanda, who had scored against Ghana in their opening game, sealed the win with his second goal of the tournament, confirming DR Congo’s strong start to the campaign.
With four points from two games, DR Congo are well-positioned to advance to the quarterfinals, even if they finish as one of the best third-placed teams.
Central African Republic, on the other hand, remain on one point and face an uphill battle to progress.
The result heightens anticipation for the Group C clash between defending champions Senegal and Ghana later this evening in Cairo.
