The Eastern South Regional Police Command has initiated an investigation into a shooting incident that resulted in the death of five people at Asiyaw, near Akwane-Dobro, Nsawam.
The unfortunate incident occurred on 29th April 2025 during a mediation meeting intended to address escalating tensions from illegal sand mining activities, which local farmers claim are damaging their farmlands and jeopardising food production.
In a statement, the police said a team rushed to the scene upon hearing the news and found the lifeless bodies of five male adults with gunshot wounds.
The team also recovered one Toyota Tacoma vehicle, one Toyota Tundra, a pump-action gun with 17 cartridges, four empty cartridges, three 7.62x39mm empty shells, one 9mm empty shell, and five heavy-duty motorbikes.
The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy, while investigations continue to arrest the perpetrators.
