A 24-year-old farmer, identified as Wisabu Kwame, has been remanded for two weeks by the Nkwanta South Magistrate Court in connection with the tragic death of his five-year-old daughter.
The tragic incident occurred on April 27, 2025, in the farming community of Pawa, located in the Nkwanta South District of the Oti Region.
Kwame was taken into custody after authorities were alerted to the serious injuries suffered by the young girl.
During the court proceedings, Police prosecutor Detective Bright Nkansah detailed the distressing circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
On that fateful day, Kwame and his daughter were sleeping on a farm near Keri. He later left for a nearby community to fetch ingredients for food. Upon his return, he discovered that his daughter had defecated on herself.
Overcome with anger, reports indicate that Wisabu Kwame severely assaulted the girl, causing her to lose consciousness.
He then rushed her to a nearby CHPS compound at Keri before being referred to Nkwanta St. Joseph Catholic Hospital for further medical attention.
Sadly, despite the efforts of medical staff, the child was pronounced dead.
Investigations revealed that the girl sustained significant injuries consistent with physical abuse, which directly contributed to her premature death.
Following the incident, hospital authorities reported the matter to the police, leading to Kwame’s arrest and subsequent charge of murder.
During the proceedings, presided over by Magistrate George Valentine Arhine, the gravity of the situation was clear.
The judge emphasised the importance of a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the child’s death, noting that the remand period would allow law enforcement to gather additional evidence and conduct a detailed inquiry.
