39-year-old man sentenced to 21 months for stealing electrical cables

Felix Amoah, a 39-year-old from Doba in the Kassena Nankana Municipality, has been sentenced by the Navrongo District Court to fifteen months in prison for stealing copper cables belonging to the Ghana Water Company and an additional six months for unlawful damage.

Both sentences will be served concurrently with hard labour.

During the proceedings presided over by His Worship Famous Yao Amenyo, the court reviewed compelling evidence indicating that Amoah was present in Doba on October 13, 2023, at the time of the theft.

It was established that his actions amounted to theft and property destruction, making him criminally liable.

The judge pointed out inconsistencies in Amoah’s defense, which he later acknowledged under cross-examination. Notably, traces of the stolen cables were discovered at his residence in Doba.

Despite his claims, evidence suggested that he could not have carried the stolen items alone due to the quantity.

In addition to the prison time, he is required to either return the stolen copper cables to the Ghana Water Company or pay their equivalent value of GHC195,000.

However, Azamseyam Kadou, Amoah’s wife, who was also involved in the suit, has been acquitted and discharged, as the available evidence cleared her of any involvement in the theft.
