Prosper Ogum calls for sustained security measures at league centres

Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has praised the improved security measures at Kotoko’s home games following the resumption of the Ghana Premier League.

However, he has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to ensure that these security standards are upheld at all GPL venues.

Dr. Ogum expressed his concerns during a post-game interview after Kotoko’s 2-0 victory over Legon Cities at the Baba Yara Stadium.

This match marked Kotoko’s first since the league was suspended for several weeks due to the tragic death of Francis Yaw “Pooley” Frimpong. Pooley, a beloved Kotoko supporter, was fatally stabbed during violent clashes at a match against Nsoatre-based Nosatreman.

He was recently laid to rest, and before the game against Legon Cities, Kotoko players honored his memory.

Dr. Ogum commended the heightened security at Baba Yara Stadium and emphasized the importance of implementing similar safety measures across all league venues.

“What I saw today is good, it’s good for our game. Everybody was safe within the tunnel, there were a lot of security men in the tunnel. I was very happy when I saw them because if I look at what happened at Nsoatre, I think we need some of these things to make sure all stakeholders…everybody is safe. That is exactly what the GFA has done today. If this can continue and will be the same at all centres, then that would be perfect.”
