One suspect has been apprehended in connection with the brutal killing of a final-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

An update from the Ghana Police Service named Daniel Tuffuor, a student, as the suspect.

The female student, Joana Deladem Yabani, was found dead in the early hours of February 27, 2025, near the KNUST Centre for Disability.

Initial speculations suggested that the student may have been attacked by robbers while returning from night studies, as the university is currently in the midst of its mid-semester examination week.

In a statement, the university said the suspect was arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police after a thorough review of CCTV footage.

The suspect, who is also a student residing in the same hostel as the deceased, had the clothes worn by the perpetrator on the night of the murder.

The university management, in collaboration with the police, led by the IGP, has intensified security in the school by deploying over 50 police officers, five mobile patrol teams from the anti-robbery squad, and 34 from the SWAT Unit to strategic locations on the campus.

Meanwhile, the university has called for students to remain calm as the police work to uncover the full details surrounding the unfortunate incident.
