The government has approved a 10 percent salary increase for public sector workers, effective March 1, 2025.

This comes after a negotiation between President Mahama and the labour unions.

Announcing the increment on Thursday, February 20, Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Rashid Pelpuo, urged all institutions and organisations to make adjustments to the salaries to cover the 10 per cent.

“There has been an increase in the national daily minimum wage by 10 per cent over the 2024 National Daily Minimum Wage, which translates into a new national daily minimum wage of 19.97 Cedis.

“The effective date for the implementation of the 2025 minimum wage shall be the first of March 2025, all establishments, institutions or organisations whose daily minimum wages are below the new wage should adjust accordingly.” the Minister said.

This follows a 23 percent increase in January 2024.

Organised labour had requested a 45 per cent increase in base pay, which would raise overall salaries for public sector workers.

However, the figure was slashed by almost half after discussions on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
