Brighton and Hove Albion are set to open contract talks with Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey ahead of the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old right-back has six months remaining on his current deal and could talk to a new club before the expiration of his deal.

Lamptey has struggled for consistent game time under Fabian Hurzeler but showed his worth during the absence of Joel Veltman.

With both players now fit, the duo are expected to negotiate new deals in January.

“I think both players they know their value,” said manager Hurzeler. “They know their role in the team.

“They are both great team players but there are some things that we have to discuss internally that will stay internal.

“We won’t talk about internal things like the contract or when we try to have discussions with the players.

“That’s a thing between the club and the players. In the end the public will know it, but they’re both doing quite good.

“They are really well integrated in the team. They know their role, they are helpful for the team. So let’s see how we proceed with them.”

Lamptey has made six Premier League appearances, scoring a goal and delivering two assists this season.
