The king of the Gonja kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Soale Jewu Soale, has lifted a ban he placed on the Member of Parliament(MP) for Damongo constituency and Lands and Natural Resources Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor.

On July 21, 2024, the king barred Mr Jinapor from visiting any palace in Gonjaland.

The king of the Gonja kingdom described the lawmaker as a threat to the peace and unity in Gonjaland.

He accused Abu Jinapor of using the powers of government to circumvent the traditional authority and his orders in an attempt to evade accountability.

The Overlord of Gonjaland further threatened to deal with any chief who would welcome the Damongo lawmaker to his palace.

However, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Soale Jewu Soale lifted the ban following a visit by a government delegation led by the Chieftaincy Minister to the Jakpa Palace.

This was the second visit by the delegation after the ban.

Meanwhile, Mr Jinapor had earlier assured the Overlord of Gonjaland and all chiefs in the area that he revered royalty and would not act in disregard of his traditional authority.

“For me, the fundamental point I would like to make is that the Yagbonwura is my father, my grandfather, my Overlord and there is absolutely nothing that I or anyone else can do about that. I continue to have huge regard and respect for Yagbonwuras in the past and this current Yagbonwura in particular,” he said.
