Rashid Sumaila’s team Adisadel Youth SC earns Division Two League promotion

Cape Coast-based Adisadel Youth Sporting Club, owned by former Black Stars and Kotoko defender Rashid Sumaila has secured promotion to the Division Two League.

They finished top of the standings in the just concluded Division Three Middle League, leading to their qualification to the Division Two ahead of next season.

The ambitious club recorded three wins and one defeat during the Middle League campaign.

Having secured promotion, Adisadel Youth SC are expected to compete in the 2024/25 Central Region Division Two League.

Following the footsteps of other retired Ghanaian footballers who have set up clubs like Nii Odartey Lamptey, Godwin Attram, and Awudu Issaka to nurture and develop talent in the country, Sumaila made a significant step to establish the Adisadel Youth SC last year.

After just a year, the club has reached a significant milestones after securing promotion to the second division.

Starting his career with Cape Coast-based Ebusua Dwarfs, he later played for Asante Kotoko before traveling abroad for various football experiences.

The defender, who is currently unattached has had an extensive career, playing for clubs in South Africa, Kuwait, Qatar, and Serbia.

His notable stints include spells with Al Gharafa, Red Star Belgrade, Qadsia SC, Saham Club, and Muaither SC.

Having earned 10 caps for the Black Stars since his debut in 2012, Sumaila was part of the Ghanaian squad at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where the team reached the group stage.

Meanwhile, he is expected to make a return to the field as he weighs up his options.
