Gomoa Okyereko road is now open to motorists – NADMO

The Gomoa Okyereko section of the Accra-Cape Coast highway which caved in after the Ayensu River overflowed, flooding the area and submerging several farmlands has now been reopened.

The main Accra-Winneba highway suffered disruption in vehicular traffic flow after a contractor working on the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway diverted the Ayensu River.

According to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the flood has left residents stranded forcing them to seek shelter in a local church.

The Gomoa East District director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Robert Nana Hackman said the road was opened around 9pm on Thursday after repair works.

“Yesterday with the help from the district engineer and the contractor himself, we were able fix the road and it was opened around 9:34 pm.”

“Currently the road diversion has been closed and motorist and passengers plying Kasoa to Winneba, Apam , Mankessim Takoradi Cape Coast can now use the old road,” he said.

Meanwhile NADMO has supplied the affected residents with some relief items.
