Ghana’s female U-20 team, the Black Princesses, has finally received their full African Games bonuses.

The Princesses clinched gold by defeating their arch-rivals, Nigeria, in the football final held in Accra back in March.

Reports by Joy Sports say that each member of the team has been paid the equivalent of $3,000 in Ghanaian Cedis.

During the African Games, the Sports Ministry had announced a bonus structure, with gold medalists set to receive $3,000, while silver and bronze medalists were to receive $2,000 and $1,000 respectively.

However, a day after their victory, the Black Princesses were informed that this promise did not extend to team sports. This sparked media outrage, prompting the Sports Ministry to honor the initial agreement of $3,000.

Despite this payment, the Black Princesses are still awaiting their bonuses for qualifying for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Promised $6,000 each before the African Games, the team has yet to receive this amount.
