The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, drew eyeballs and was eventually mobbed by the crowds as he made an appearance at Manhyia to attend the Akwasidae.
With him were his wife, Samira Bawumia, and a courtier from Government House. The Vice President walked calmly through the crowds, beamed with smiles, and waved to people.
The night before Akwasidae, he joined Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, President Akufo Addo and others at a dinner to welcome dignitaries who have come to Kumasi to participate in the activities to mark the silver jubilee of Asantehene.
Dr Bawumia who is the flagbearer of the ruling government, the NPP, was touring the country and canvassing for votes. He put a temporary hold on his campaign to attend the important occasion at Manhyia.
