Residents of Agona Namawura in the Central Region are in a state of fear and panic after a 20-year-old mentally challenged individual inflicted cutlass wounds on three victims.
The suspect broke into the victims’ home early on Monday, January 29, 2024, brandishing a sharpened cutlass and began to hack them.
The victims have been sent to the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital for treatment while a manhunt is ongoing to get him arrested.
It is reported that some young people in the neighbourhood tore down the three-bedroom home and attacked the suspect’s mother at their family home out of rage.

Residents, primarily farmers, are afraid to go to their farms alone for fear of being attacked by the suspect who may be lurking in the bushes.

Reports say this is the second time the mentally ill person has inflicted wounds on people in the area.

They have called on the Ghana Police Service to intervene and take all the mentally ill people out of the community.
In a similar vein, a 25-year-old man allegedly beheaded his father at Assin Akrofuom in the Assin South District of the Central Region.
The suspect, Richard Manu, also known as Azonto, attacked his father, Kwaku Manu, on suspicion that he had spiritually exchanged his prosperous destiny with that of his twin brother.
He also inflicted cutlass wounds on his mother and other family members who were present.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to the media said Azonto went on to threaten them when they attempted to intervene.
“I came out only to find the man slashing his father. So I took a stick, but he threatened to cut me, and so I ran out to seek help. When I returned, police in patrol cars had already arrested him,” one eyewitness narrated.
