GFA shouldn’t have sabotaged Chris Hughton – Nii Lante Vanderpuye

Story By: Football Ghana

The Odododiodio Member of Parliament Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has claimed that the Ghana Football Association sabotaged Chris Hughton because people in government brought him to manage the Black Stars.

The conversations since Chris Hughton’s appointment was that he was hired because government backed him.

However, Vanderpuye believes it is not an excuse to hold back Hughton in his work.

“If government brought Chris Hughton, you should not sabotage him. Me I have heard from somewhere that the coach said sometimes all the players that come to camp, it’s not all of them he is aware of,” Vanderpuye told Asempa FM in an interview.

Chris Hughton was sacked after Ghana’s embarrassing exit at the tournament without a win.

Ghana needed a win against Mozambique in their final Group B game but succumbed and gave away two goals in added time to draw 2-2 and get kicked out of the competition.

Andre Ayew committed an unforgettable penalty that the Mambas converted in the 91st minute to make it 2-1.

Goalkeeper Richard Ofori then gave away an unfortunate corner when his decision caused him to make contact with the ball without grabbing it.

The corner was subsequently scored to level the game in the 94th minute and Ghana’s AFCON campaign was over.
