Chairman Wontumi summoned to appear before Manhyia on Monday

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been summoned by the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) to report to the Manhyia Palace on Monday, January 22, 2024.

The emergency traditional council meeting in Manhyia is expected to address Chairman Wontumi’s alleged disparaging statement against the overlord of the Ashanti kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The meeting will be chaired by the President of the Kumasi Traditional Council, Bantamahene Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, at the Manhyia Palace.

General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Justin Frimpong Koduah, is expected to present Chairman Wontumi before the traditional council for questioning over the allegations following revelations by Manhyia South Constituency chairman of the party, Richard Agyei Mensah Ofori Atta.

Nana Kwaku Duah, chief of Kokoso who is also Otumfuo’s Obremponhene and the Manhyia South NPP Constituency Chairman are chief witnesses to Chairman Wontumi’s remarks against Otumfuo during the NPP’s parliamentary vetting.

They are all expected to attend the all-important Kumasi Traditional Council meeting.

Various divisional chiefs (Nananom Afekuo) who constitute the Kumasi Traditional Council have been invited to attend the meeting on Monday morning with two representatives each.

Meanwhile, Chairman Wuntumi has refuted the allegations of derogatory remarks about Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

In a statement on January 11, he stressed his respect for Otumfuo and his unwavering commitment to uphold the authority of the Asantehene.

He further called on the public to disregard what he termed as propaganda against him by his detractors.
