The Tumu Police Command has arrested 35-year-old Abdul Kudus Razak for selling unregistered herbal drugs to the people of the Sissala East municipality in the Upper West Region.

According to the acting Upper West Regional Director of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Kelvin Dafaare Sunkpal, who led the operation, the suspect used one herb to manufacture eight different drugs.

Mr Sunkpal disclosed that his team got a tip-off that the suspect was heading to Tumu, the capital of the Sisaala East municipality, to sell his unregistered drugs and aphrodisiacs.

“This morning, I had to get my team to Tumu, and lo and behold, he was found at the Tumu station peddling drugs.”

“I made someone go ahead to purchase the drugs first, and there were about eight unregistered drugs, so we arrested him and sent him to the police station.”

“We realized that the suspect also used one herb to prepare the drugs and placed different labels on them after bottling them.”

Information gathered indicates that all eight “different drugs” were all supposed aphrodisiacs.

The suspect was caught selling 330 ml of a supposed penis enlargement drug for GH₵40.

The suspect also disclosed that he moved to do business in Tumu because of the long distance from the FDA office in Wa to evade authorities.

Meanwhile, the FDA has urged the public to be wary of buying and consuming poisonous products during Christmas in the name of promotions and low prices.

The FDA warned that many near-expiry products were often dumped onto the market at incredibly low prices for the unsuspecting public during the season.

The FDA says it is working relentlessly to ensure public health safety through market surveillance, public education, and routine inspections.
