Youth want House of Chiefs’ Registrar reassigned

The Western Nzema Youth League has petitioned the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs as well as the Minister of National Security to ask the Registrar at the Western Regional House of Chiefs, Theophilus Ollenu to lay down his tools.

The youth in a statement released on Friday, November 3 noted that, “We the youth are very fed up with your actions and your divisive mindset as a regional registrar”.

“Enough of you running the secretariat as your personal property. Your quest to divide and rule on our dear chiefs is uncalled for. We know how far you can go so put a stop to creating unnecessary hostility among the chiefs you manage at the Regional Secretariat”.

The youth accused Mr Ollenu of his “machinations” against the chief of Ahanta Agona.

“You are on tape planning to disgrace him”.

“We are vigilante as youth and will never sit for you to divide us”.

The youth also accused the Registrar of going round with chieftaincy declaration forms without due process and registering chiefs, asking the National Security Minister to audit how chiefs have been registered in the past 2 years.

They cited how the Ahanta land and Awiaso Paramountcy registrations were done.

“Nananom need to speak up to this. It’s becoming a bane on us. Some one who is not from the Western Region but bent on dividing us is impossible”.

The youth say this is a national security threat and must be treated with the urgency that it deserves.

“We want to ask him the status of the registration for the Awiaso Paramountcy. We understand all the necessary protocols have been duly followed”.

“We hope that this request to bring sanity to our regional chieftaincy secretariat and allow the Registrar to recuse himself or be reassigned. This will save the integrity of our dear region”.
