35-year-old man lynched for allegedly stealing a motorbike

A 35-year-old man was reportedly beaten to death in Kabili, a suburb of Sampa in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region, following allegations of motorbike theft.

The young man is said to have stolen the motorbike in the region about a month ago and managed to escape.

Unfortunately for him, a CCTV camera had recorded the theft.

He returned to the community after a month but was recognised by some residents. Confronted about the whereabouts of the stolen motorbike, he claimed to have sold it. This led to his alleged assault.

Reports suggest that the young man was subsequently stripped naked and beaten to death.

Eyewitnesses claim that the attackers even attempted to set his body on fire but were prevented from doing so.

The police were notified of the incident, but by the time they arrived, the attackers had fled the scene.

They have therefore appealed to the traditional leaders in the area to assist them in investigating the matter.

The deceased’s body has since been deposited at the mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.

Incidents of lynching have been on the rise in recent times.

This tragedy adds to a series of similar incidents, highlighting the need to address mob injustice and ensure the rule of law in communities.
