Ghana Premier League champions, Medeama secured qualification for the next round of the CAF Champions League after winning the second leg of the qualifiers via the penalty shootouts in Nigeria.
The Mauve and Yellow defeated Nigeria’s Remo Stars 1-0 in the first leg of the preliminary round at the Cape Coast Stadium last weekend.
The team was poised to protect the one-goal advantage in the return leg but failed when the home side scored in the 73rd minute in Ikene.
After full time with the result at 1-1, the game went into penalty shootouts and the Yellow & Mauves managed to secure a 3-2 penalty shootouts victory at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikene.
It is Medeama’s debut campaign in the CAF Champions League having had two appearances in the second-tier club competition, the CAF Confederation Cup in 2013 and 2015.
Medeama will now face Guinea giants, Horoya Athletic Club in the next round of the qualifiers.
