The Naked Faces In Niger

The Founder of the Christian Action Faith Chapel in Ghana with branches all over the world, had opined in that interview that other parts of Africa were at risk of the mayhem called the Arab Spring which occurred in the Maghreb, and the Middle East where the youth took to arms and persistent protests until the fall of the establishment.

The prophecy of the man of God has dropped on us like a meteorite.

Niger, in the spotlight now, is tagged as the second poorest country in the world. It was hit with a severe famine in 2011 which Ghana and others supported with humanitarian aid. Most Nigériens are part of African migrants who embark on perilous journeys on the Sahara, then to the dinghy boats on the Mediterranean, in the hope of reaching Europe.

Richard Medhurst, a foreign journalist under the label of independence, has recorded himself in which he makes some revelations. He said, Niger one of the world’s leading producers of uranium, the mineral used in powering nuclear energy, has been exploited to the advantage of former colonial power France where approximately one-third of electricity is derived from Niger’s uranium. He added that Niger itself suffers chronic power crisis, amidst the hopeless larger picture of a country without electricity except three or four major cities.

Claims by this journalist cannot be immediately verified but if these are anything to go by, then they are wake-up calls on the continent to support research, science, technology, industry, and indigenous culture. The untainted African culture has as its elements, communalism, fellow feeling, and self-discipline. Heritage watchwords that do not synchronize with greed, cronyism, selfishness, economic plunder, and crime are visited on Africans by some of their political leaders.

Divisions all over have snowballed and converged on the unlikeliest spot, Niamey.
