The Chairman of the Appiatse Support Fund, Rev. Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee has assured that the redeveloped township of Appiatse will be commissioned in three months’ time.
Executive members of the fund earlier this year noted that the work at the site is almost completed and will be ready for use in 2023.
Rev. Dr. Aryee speaking on the progress and the commissioning of the project said “We’ve come quite far and I really am looking forward to us commissioning it in at least the next three months. The team worked very hard. What should have taken two years, usually when you’re planning some of these things, you have to go to the community and talk to the people, that took a long time, and the design also took a bit of time”.
Touching a bit on the new outlook of the facility she explained that the reconstructed houses now boast multiple new structures, including verandas, toilet facilities, and kitchens. These additions elevate the living conditions for the residents and contribute to the overall improvement of the community.
“Most communities had one-bedroom, two bedrooms, and it’s just one room or two rooms, no distinction, what we’ve tried doing is to give at least a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen, a toilet, and a veranda,” Dr. Aryee added in an interview aired on MX24 TV.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Appiatse Reconstruction Committee, Mr. Thywill Quarshie in July this year, also revealed that most of the buildings had been roofed as the laborers were proceeding to work on the electrical, plastering, and painting of the houses for the victims.
He added that the drainage system had been completed and the road network in the area was being constructed.
The facility comprises 540 units of houses for the surviving victims who lost other relatives, and valuable items including their homes through the devastating explosion that struck the township on 20th January 2022.
These houses range from one-bedroom to seven-bedroom homes, catering to the diverse needs of the community. What makes this endeavour truly special is the active involvement of community members who were integral to the redevelopment process.
The Appiatse Support Fund was commissioned on 27th January 2022, a week after the heartbreaking explosion incident to mobilize funds for the reconstruction of new houses for the surviving victims.
