In July 2023, the three students of Brunei Hostel rushed to grab another student who was hanging from the balcony of his room and pulled him to safety.

In a video on social media, the victim, a medical student, was seen hanging in an alleged suicide attempt.

Hours after the video was circulated, a purported suicide note that he was believed to have left surfaced online.

In the note, he commiserated with his parents, siblings, and friends, explaining that his decision was hard to reach but a last resort.

The incident put other students in a state of shock and sparked conversations about the mental health of students at the university.
