Ghanaian musician Frank Nii Okai Tagoe, popularly known as Perez Musik, has revealed that he was undecided about whether to spend money on starting a rice business or on recording his award-winning song, Hewale lala.

“And funny enough, when we did the recording we didn’t have money for promotion. Everything that happened on Hewale lala was purely organic,” he told host Naa Ashorkor.

“We put all the money we had into the making of the song, and forgot about its promotion.”

According to Perez Musik, he only spent US$50 in promoting Hewale lala on Instagram, “I think the first station that played it was Sunny FM, they played it in the morning and by evening the song was everywhere.

“… I think I did a US$50 promo on IG and that was it. I think it was God, trying to prove something to me,” he added.

Hewale lala won Perez Musik two prestigious awards at the just-ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).

“Imagine if I had invested this money into something God hasn’t asked me to do, I’m sure I would have been so frustrated by now,” he said.
