3 dead, 12 injured in two separate accidents at Assin

Three persons have been confirmed dead, with 12 others severely injured in two separate accidents in the Central Region on Tuesday, 25th April 2023.

The first accident occurred on the Cape Coast – Kumasi highway. The driver of an Isuzu private pickup with registration number WR -456-W with fourteen occupants was travelling from Cape Coast towards Assin Juaso.

The 36-year-old driver, identified as Joseph Obeng, was reported to be overspeeding and attempted to overtake a vehicle upon reaching a section of the road at Assin Fosu but lost control.

The car smashed a metal guard mounted on the side of the road and somersaulted in the process, and two occupants died on the spot.

Twelve other victims reported to be masons and labourers who sustained various injuries were rushed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital intensive care unit in Assin Fosu.

The bodies of the deceased are yet to be identified but have been deposited at the morgue.

Meanwhile, police are calling on residents who can’t locate their relatives to go to the hospital for identification.

Similarly, a Renault tanker with registration number WR-2116-22 carrying limestone and travelling from Takoradi towards Kumasi knocked down a pedestrian crossing the road at Assin Asempanaye near Assin Praso.

The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Obu, aged 32, died instantly as the vehicle crushed his head.

According to the younger, the deceased was paying a visit to his sick mother, and the unfortunate incident occurred immediately after he alighted from the vehicle.

The body has been deposited at the St. Francis Hospital while the investigation commences.

Police investigations have commenced whilst the two drivers from the separate incidents are in police custody assisting invaginations.
