Odarky Andy, the winner of the first season of Mentor, a music reality show, has disclosed that his cousin and top Ghanaian musician, Okyeame Kwame, has only released one song with him after the reality show that made him famous.
Andy burst onto the music scene after emerging as the show’s winner in 2006 but failed to live up to the hype, with his career taking a nosedive.
His cousin, Okyeame Kwame (Kwame Nsiah-Apau), had won the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year in 2004 and remained one of the top personalities in the entertainment industry.
Odarky Andy featured Okyeame Kwame in his song ‘Pretty Girl’, but the music did not reach the heights he had expected.
He admitted that the quality of the music video at the time the song was released wasn’t the best, but he had no option but to release it to the public.
Odarky Andy feels disappointed because of the little support to boost his career over the years.
In a recent interview, Odarky Andy claimed that he had tried on several occasions to have more collaborations with his cousin, but all efforts have been futile as it seems Okyeame Kwame has been busy with his personal music career.
The ‘Konkonsa’ hitmaker also spoke on the fact that the music industry has become very competitive, and artistes must work harder to stay relevant.
In an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Connect FM, Odarky Andy appealed to the management of Media General to find alternative measures to support winners or potential stars who file nominations in the Mentor reality show so that such artistes stay relevant even after the reality show.
