The driver of a fuel tanker with registration number GT 3486-14 has been involved in an accident with a cargo car with registration number GG 874-17 loaded with bottled water at Gomoa Okyereko on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway, leaving the fuel tanker driver in a critical condition.
This incident occurred on Tuesday morning.
It is reported that the driver of the tanker filled with petrol was coming from Accra to Mankesim. Upon reaching Gomoa Okyereko Junction, the driver, believed to have been sleeping behind the steering wheel, hit the back of the cargo car and reportedly caused the driver to veer into the bush.
The driver was trapped in the car with a severe head injury. The Ghana National Fire Service personnel from Winneba had to rush to the scene to cut through the vehicle to access the tanker driver and send him to the Winneba Hospital for medical attention.
Another car was deployed to the scene from Accra to offload the petrol and enable the road safety personnel to tow the vehicle to safety.
The cargo car driver was safe and without injury.
The police also came to the scene, and investigations are ongoing.
