The Former Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak says the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament was never consulted ahead of the reshuffle.
At a press conference, the Member of Parliament for Asawase insisted the assertions that there were comprehensive discussions ahead of the move are false.
Addressing the media, he said, “at no such meeting was there any agenda to discuss this.”
“It is clear that it is a letter, yes, was written by the General Secretary but the decision may just be the decision of a few people in the party,” he added.
The NDC reshuffled its leadership in Parliament by appointing Ajumako Enyam Essiam legislator, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as the new Minority Leader.
A statement signed by the General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, announced the replacement of Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu by Ranking Member on the Finance Committee and Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Constituency in the Central Region, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, as the Minority Leader.
Armah Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle, has also come in to replace Ketu North MP James Klutse Avedzi as the Deputy Minority Leader. At the same time, Kwame Agbodza has replaced Asawase MP Muntaka Mubarak as the Minority Whip.
But the development has not gone down well with Mr. Muntaka despite a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 31, 2023, between the Minority and the party leadership to settle some differences.
“I heard some of the officers saying that some elders were sent to talk to us. I will be happy to know which elder was set to talk to me. Because nobody was sent to talk to me,” he narrated.
Muntaka Mubarak was in the company of Zebilla East legislator, Cletus Avoka who described the new appointments as premature and demanded the suspension of same.
