The National Democratic Congress, NDC, has publicly endorsed and coopted the Professionals Forum of the party for the march forward to its political future.
The endorsement run through speeches made at the party’s 10th national Congress held in Accra.
NDC Proforum came into existence in response to recommendations in the Prof. Kwesi Botchway’s report, in the aftermath of the bruising 2016 elections. The report which was a culmination of the search for answers to the causes of NDC’s defeat in that elections, proposed that the party harnesses and taps into its professional materials for content and direction.
The formation of the group was spearheaded by Hon. Sam Pee Yalley. He was one-time Mayor of Cape Coast, Deputy Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, Chief Executive of the National Pensions Authority and High Commissioner to India.
It is reported that the Proforum which is chaired by Hon. Yalley will make financial contributions to the party. The group did the spade work for the party’s 2020 manifesto committee by mobilizing rich ideas in members to constitute the springboard for the actual committee. One of its recommendations was the splitting of youth from sports ministry, with the proposal that ministry is renamed sports and well-being. The rationale for this idea was to give sports and issues about the youth undivided attention in different enclaves.
The NDC Proforum draws from a professional pool as accountants, lawyers, scientists, ICT and security experts, foreign policy experts, economists and former appointees of NDC government.
