The 46th edition of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards was held on Friday night, December 17, 2021, at the Accra International Conference Centre to honour sports personalities who performed incredibly well in the year under review.
The huge event saw the gracing of the country’s Vice President, H.E, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Youth and Sports Minister, Hon Mustapha Ussif, the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Chief of Asogli Traditional Area and Hearts of Oak bankroller, Togbe Afede XIV and many more including the SWAG President and renowned Sports Journalist Kwabena Yeboah were all present at the awards ceremony.
Young boxer Samuel Takyi scooped two awards after clinching the ultimate accolade thus the Personality of the year and the best Amateur Boxer after winning Bronze in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games which was staged in the summer of this year.
Ajax Amsterdam and Black Stars midfielder Kudus Mohammed was named foreign-based best player whiles Hearts of Oak’s Daniel Afriyie Barnieh takes home the local football of the year accolade.
Hasaacas Ladies after outstandingly winning five trophies have been tipped as the team of the year with their skipper Janet Egyir winning the best female footballer award.
After leading the Black Satellites to continental glory and also featuring for almost all the national teams, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was chosen as the Discovery of the year.
