New Guan District will spur development – Council of State Member

The Council of State Member representing the newly created Oti Region, Richard Kings Atikpo optimistic that the creation of the Guan District in his region will trigger development for the people in the area.

The district comprises areas such as Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe.

Processes for the new district had been in the works since the creation of the region and was finally inaugurated on Friday, 8 October 2021.

The event which was held at Likpe-Mate attracted people from all walks of life including the Minister of Local Government Decentralisation and Rural Development Dan Botwe, Oti Regional Minister Joshua Makubu, Local Government Service boss Nana Ato Arthur, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Obed Yao Asamoah, Former National Security Adviser Lt Col Gbevlo Lartey, and the Paramount Chief of Likpe Traditional Area Nana Soglo Alloh IV amongst many others.

Speaking to the press after the event, Mr Atikpo said he was very hopeful that the district’s creation would bring relief. Mr Atikpo, a native of Akpafu, called for their share of the national cake to transform the area.

“This is a virgin district, and as is done in other jurisdictions, we are confident that resources, both human and capital, would be deployed to the area. My people desperately need development, and governments efforts would be very much appreciated in that regard.”

Other dignitaries present also called on the government to help meet the aspirations of the people.
