Mentally ill Kenyan goes missing after train trip

Story By: BBC

A mentally ill 74-year old man has gone missing after boarding Kenya’s train headed for the coastal town of Mombasa from the capital, Nairobi.

Peterson Mwangi is said to have boarded the train with an invalid ticket and was forced to alight at the next station.

The Kenya Railways company says it is procedural to ask a passenger who travels with an invalid ticket to either pay for their trip or alight.

Mr Mwangi did not have a phone to contact his family members and the company says it was not aware of his mental illness.

He had bypassed security to board the train using an old ticket of another passenger.

His family has filed a missing persons report and the railways operator says it will co-operate with the security agencies to help with the search.
