Three arrested for robbing Wa West DCE, others

Police in the Upper West Region have arrested three suspected armed robbers in connection with a robbery on the Ga-Wechiau highway. 

The three are believed to have robbed the District Chief Executive of Wa West, Edward Sabo Labiir and other travellers on Wednesday, November 11, 2020.

The incident occurred along the Ga-Wechiau highway in the Upper West Region.

The robbers reportedly took away an unspecified amount of money, phones, and other items after holding their victims hostage for three hours while on their way to a traditional council meeting at Wechiau.

The Police in a statement said, “acting upon information, it arrested suspects Shaibu Haruna, 24; Mumuni Partie, 30 and Waah Bonyinbora, 60, on Thursday, November 12, 2020, and retrieved some weapons from them.”

It said the suspects are currently in police custody and will soon be arraigned before court.

The police, however, said it is on a manhunt for other suspects who are currently on the run.

It further urged residents in Wa West to always seek escort from the police whenever they are travelling to or from the area.

Armed robbery attacks and the activities of armed gangs have in recent times become a worrying trend in the region.

The Upper West Regional Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bukari Ali was shot by unknown gunmen while on his way to Wa.

According to MyNewsGh.com’s, he was shot at a place called Bulenga.

Police in the Upper West Region gunned down two suspected robbers at Takpo in the Nadowli District of the Upper West region.

The Regional Commander, DCOP Francis Aboagye Nyarko stated that the two suspected robbers were shot after they invaded the Takpo community with four others and forcibly took unspecified amounts of money from the people.

A 35-year-old pregnant trader, Babie Ajara, had a gruelliing ordeal in the hands of armed robbers, resulting in a premature delivery. This happened  after she was forced to lie on her belly for well over six hours.

Ajara was attacked while she was on her way to a  local market at Santijan community, about 80 kilometres away from Tumu. She was robbed of money and other valuables.
